Distinguished writer-graduates return to WMU for Frostic reading

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Three accomplished writers and graduates of Western Michigan University will return to their alma mater in November to take part in the Fall 2015 Gwen Frostic Reading Series.

Traci Brimhall, Adam Pasen and Heather A. Slomski will read from their works at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in 157-159 Bernhard Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Traci Brimhall

Brimhall is the author of "Our Lady of the Ruins," winner of the 2011 Barnhard Women Poets Prize, and "Rookery," winner of the 2009 Crab Orchard Series in Poetry First Book Award. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, Slate, The New Republic and elsewhere. She has received fellowships from the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing and the National Endowment for the Arts. She currently teaches at Kansas State University.

Pasen

Adam Pasen

Pasen's plays include "Tea with Edie and Fitz," "Badfic Love" and "Board Fold," among others. He has received a BroadwayWorld Chicago Award for Best New Work and the Gary Garrison National Ten Minute Play Award from the Kennedy Center and was a finalist for the Seven Devils Playwright Conference and Steppenwolf Garage Rep. He has been anthologized in "Best American Short Plays" and "The Best American Stage Monologues and Scenes for Women."

Heather Slomski

Slomski is the author of "The Lovers Set Down Their Spoons," winner of the 2014 Iowa Short Fiction Award and a finalist for the 2015 Minnesota Book Award. She has held the Axton Fellowship in Fiction at the University of Louisville and has received a Minnesota State Artist Initiative Grant and a Minnesota Emerging Writer's Grant. Her stories have appeared in TriQuarterly, The Normal School and elsewhere. She currently teaches at Concordia College.

The Frostic Reading Series presents acclaimed creative writers from across the nation and beyond. Every year, a diverse range of readings that encompasses poetry, fiction, nonfiction and drama attract both campus and off-campus audiences.
